Life, and Life Drawing class

Hello hello!
Yesterday, I realised it's now been two years that I've been working at Macguff.
Time passes so fast.......
And if you go back a few posts, you'll see one I made a year ago with the same kind of phrase! Let's make a ritual of that!

I remember when I was at school, the purpose of everything I drew was to have work to put in my portfolio, because I wanted to go to Gobelins or find a job.
When I finally landed this amazing job as a storyboarder here, I discovered the joy of drawing for drawing.

I spent so many years thinking about that portfolio, always wondering "Is that what they want? Are they looking for someone who can do that? Or that?"
I was a little bit disoriented when drawing became just...a pleasure and not a goal.
Now when I draw something I still try to think "this will help you to evolve", but evolve not for a folio or a better job, but for myself... because exploring Art is interesting.

So I try to listen carefully to all the advice I'm given here and not to be scared of asking for it... because if we had to find everything out by ourselves it would take ages. We have to learn from those who have come before us.
I'm not saying to never search by yourself but when you're tired of searching, just ask.

I think one of the most interesting things I discovered this year, is that it's very important not to erase.
When you draw a line, if it's not correct, use it as a reference point to make the next line correct.
It's much easier to begin from an error than from nothing.
Sometimes you can be your own teacher.
Of course if you feel you need to start from the beginning, don't torture yourself...
but keep an eye on your old bad drawings to see what didn't work so as not to make the same mistake the next time.

Here are some little things from Life Drawing this week, Laurent was there to and posted his drawings (from this session and a lot more!) on his blog here (=

And this is a little card I made for a friend last week :)

I felt a bit guilty at first having signed up to life drawing two weeks in a row.... but that session was so good I would do it again in an instant ;D Buuuut maybe next week I'll let someone else take my place....

  2. congrats !!
it's funny because recently i also made that discovery, but in animation. So I animate for fun and in order to explore, discover, experiment and if it's good I can put it in my reel ^^
    Take care
